Created by Jean-Luc KRESS in 1999, KBS GENETIC has, in just a few years, become one of the main players in the international field of high quality Limousin genetics. A group of French Limousin breeders, among them some of the most well known and in addition, the Excellence Limousin Genetics group, have chosen to work with KBS GENETIC sharing their knowledge and promoting their selection work.
Focusing on the basic principles of the breed…
Using the modern techniques for sharing genetic progress (semen and embryos) as well as the internationally acknowledged methods of indices for bulls and cows, these breeders are in keeping with the specific qualities of the Limousin that were bred by their forefathers that made the breed truly exceptional. The Limousin breed is indeed the only breed in the world that naturally and successfully combines muscle development, easy calving, early maturing with good conformation. Although the French Limousin genetics are very much appreciated, French breeders are very much aware that they are not the only ones working to improve the Limousin breed. The breed is present on five continents where it is bred in very different conditions and therefore with slightly different but never conflicting objectives.
…While participating in the globalisation of genetics
These French breeders have decided to break new ground by buying a live animal in North America (thirty-five years after the introduction of the Limousin in America), a young full blood polled Limousin cow. This new step is in keeping with the work already started in the polled field. We feel that the demand for such animals is bound to increase for various reasons: the work is easier and safer for the breeder and the concern from consumers for the well-being of animals is growing. The purpose of this long and exacting task is to produce genetically polled animals …without lessening the maternal and carcase qualities that made the reputation and success of the Limousin cow.
